今年の国際毛髪外科学会・会長で、毛根培養細胞移植技術のイギリスの研究責任者であるBessam Farjo博士から、研究の現状に関する情報を受け取りましたので、お知らせいたします。
要旨は、「現在はまだ研究のPhase IIであり、2009年4月頃に結果をまとめる予定である。最近の情報はホームページの該当ページの下段半分を参照してほしい。結果がまとまった後、次の段階の研究のプランを立てる予定である。現在の方法をヒトに用いて問題がないことが十分に確認できた後で、次の治験を始めたいと思っている。臨床の治療に利用できるようになるのは、まだ何年も先になるだろう。いｊま自毛植毛の治療を考えている患者さんには、研究の成果を待って手術を先延ばしにしないほうが良いと伝えて欲しい。」というものです。

It was a pleasure to meet again in Montreal and hope you had an enjoyable trip.

We are currently still in phase II of the trial and for the latest available update see http://www.farjo.net/page.asp?id=203 in the lower half of the page.
All the follow up will end around April 2009 and the next stage will be determined after reviewing the data at that time. Most likely we will look into starting a trial that will use the 'proto hairs' that we are producing in the lab from the cultured cells once we get enough confidence about this in the human model.
These concepts I am afraid are all still 'years' away from being available as clinical treatments. I would not advise patients to postpone any surgical treatments in favor of waiting for the research.
